Enhancing signature analysis troubleshooting.

In conventional signature analysis troubleshooting, the unit-under-test (UUT) is assumed to operate correctly if signatures generated under repeatable stimulus are stable and equal to the reference values. Signatures are processed on the spot: two successive signatures are compared with each other to test the unstable-signature condition. An alternative approach is to store generated signatures of a test point and process them after the measurement is completed. This can easily be accomplished by a PC based plug-in signature analyzer supported by a few K of RAM for storing the signatures of the current measurement. The analysis of the collected signatures typically encompasses searching for a given sequence of signatures (instead of a single reference signature), identification of repeatable sequences, possible period detection, etc. The (short) paper gives some hints for troubleshooting microprocessor systems.
